thanks for getting the pics up. got him tuesday. i had gotten permission to hunt a small acreage that is all timber. since i had never been on it, i was just going to scout and look for some morrells. but as season was on, i took all my gear along. started making a loop along the boundary fence, looking for shrooms, when i hear something run out of a deep ravine as i topped a hill. so i sat down and hit a few calls. i got some gobbles over a distant ridge, and as i couldn't get them to move, i did. i made a loop, trying to come at them from a different angle than where i was calling from. i set up just before the peak of the hill that they were on the far side of, and ran through some calls again. i gave it 20 minutes or more, and decide that they weren't coming, and i would have to move again. i topped the hill and found myself out in the open, in the middle of a few atv trail crossings. as i tried to decide what to do, i saw movement...a couple gobblers and some hens. evidently, the hens and one of the gobblers saw me, as they dissapeared. the other gobbler, never broke strut. he must not have seen me, or realized his buds had left. i couldn't make it to the tree i wanted, so i found the closest tree that wouldn't bend from me leaning on it and sat down. i hit a few yelps on a diaphram, and the bird swung towards to me, angling towards my left. i shifted my boddy a little, and hit a few more yelps. he turned, and started to cross to my right. he was close....REAL close. as he went behind a HUGE tree, i swung the gun to cover him as he cleared the tree. as he kept crossing, i kept the gun trained on his head. he stepped into a relativly open area, and i yelped once. as his head came up, i shot...dropping him like a sack of taters. i was STOKED!! the first bird i had called in and shot. not sure if i was more excited that i had got a bird, or that i had an entry for the turkey contest. 22.5 pounds, 11.5 beard, 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 spurs. can't wait until my next season comes around to get another
