On Saturday I went scouting for some turkeys on a WMA that Ive had pretty good luck with in the past. I got there before daylight and listened for some gobbles and didnt hear anything all morning. Later in the morning I started scouting the openings and strut zones and couldnt find a turkey track anywhere. I must have walked five miles that day. What I did find though was hundreds of coyote tracks. I believe these darn howlers have run this flock off. Im going to check the area a couple of more times before the opener but I have a feeling i'll be marking this one off of my list this year. This place has some of the most beatifull turkey habitat around too. Anyone else finding a problem with the coyotes.

When they do let you shoot them ( which I dont understand why they dont, we have open season on them year round) here is what ya do: find a location that has a wide open view for 40 yds or so. Place a decaying carcass in the middle of the opening. Place your trucks in a semi circle around the carcass about25-35yds out. Roll down the windows and sit in complete darkness until you hear the yotes growling at each other over the carcass. Then on a prearranged signal, every one turn on the lights to the trucks to shine on the carcass, and come out with 12ga shotguns loaded with buckshot and let the lead fly.

Where do you live bro?
Yotes will ruin a flock of turkeys pretty fast. If you have an open season on those guys, they make good huntin on a summer night when all other seasons are closed. I've had em stalk feeders before and seen em run deer off.

I live near Tallahassee, Florida. I went back out there yesterday afternoon and found one set of turkey tracks followed by one set of coyote tracks. Guess I'll be hunting somewhere else.

we're just starting to get yotes here, but you can put your money on me killing every one I see.
