this past friday i was sittin' in my climber when i hear a shot (hm-missin' a pig) and then i hear GOBBLES!!! one was off in the distance and then two more came from not far behind me...never saw them but it was awesome...then climbin' down after not seein' anything all day when i heard massive crunchin'...i got all excited thinkin' it was a hog or deer but turned out to be turkeys...turkeys everywhere.
i got my camera out and then froze...they started flyin' into the tree tops..one,two,then three, then a bunch.
they were everywhere and they were all pickin' trees above me....i got a few pics but it was gettin' dark so there's only one that you can tell there's a turkey on the branch....hearin' the gobbles made my day but seein' a bunch of turkeys roostin' just made my day.
the next a.m. i knew where they'd be so i got out extra early and OMG it was awesome...the show went on for about an hour and a half...one was two trees over..nice gobbler....thruout the nite they had more of their buddies show up...must have been around 30 turkeys.
they started out just cluckin' here and there and then they all woke up and started to fly from branch to branch workin' their way down...only one or two flew straight down...didn't hear any kee kee's either but that's alright...i got to watch one eatin' stuff off the tree top:)...after they hit the ground they got louder and started headin' away...i started yelpin' with my mouth cause i didn't have a call and turned a group of about 8 that were walkin' away...they came within 60yds.
it was the most awesome thing i've seen...a few times i had to remind myself to look on the ground for deer cause my eyes were glued on the turkeys in the trees.
after all the turkeys left i had a HEALTHLY bobcat come within 25yds and he proceeded to take a big poop right where i squirted some of my tinks
(ran out of code blue )....3 LONG nasty turds....my hunt was basically over at that point but my happy butt stayed until dark in hopes of seein' the turkeys again but they never showed up.
it was an awesome day and one that i'll never forget.
