use them and if so when do you use them?
I like to use a hoot tube to locate birds roosting at dark and on occasion just before sunrise while they are still on roost.

I won't go in the woods without my owl and crow call. I use my owl call right before light. if i get a gobble I can sneak in close before it's light enough for the turkey to see me. I'm set up and ready to call when it's flydown time. I use my crow call after sunup, and afternoon. I do most of my huntin out of ground blinds though, between 9:00 and 12:00. that's when I've had my best luck.

In the SC swamps, owls can be heard at all times of the day. I owlhoot with my voice, but I do carry a Woods-Wise Screaming Peacock call that I found and it will get results. BTW: Eddie Salter ain't got nothing on 'Bucket....

Palmers Hoot Tube for me to locate them, unless I can roost them the evening before, then I just go in silent, set up, then wait for daybreak. I've tried crow calls in the afternoon, but never worked. I guess we have so many crows where I hunt, the turkeys don't pay them any attention.

I don't use one much after the season gets going. The gobblers on public land I hunt won't hardly shock gobble after the season. I've had the best luck with H.S Strut's Reed Owl Hooter..used for scouting to locate toms before season. During season I have best luck cutting.
