There is an article on this in the current Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine. Thought I would put it to the group. As I am not a 'Trophy Hunter" & could care less if I shoot a doe or a world record, I think it should be up to the state first then the land owner to set regulations on land. I would hate to know my kids would have to pass up on what could be their first buck because of antler restrictions.

I think QDM ANTLER restrictions are a crock. Ive killed several bucks with inferior racks and large bodies. They just didnt have the genetics to make the rack. So potentially I would have had to pass on those 4 1/2 or older bucks to wait on one that was younger with enough genetic make up to produce a big rack. Total BS.

Maybe I don't understand the question. I think if QDM limits are in effect for a piece of property than everyone should have to abide by them. I thought the premise of QDM was to grow a herd of superior bucks. If the land is big enough and truly being managed junior won't have to pass too many bucks before he gets his chance. Besides there's no shame in your first deer being a doe, that is unless you're from PA.

I agree with noonebil and I also read the article and agreed with the author. SH your right to, no shame in a kids first being a doe, I bet most kids first deer are doe. On my lease here in Fl. the rule is 4pts or better but kids 16 and under and kill any legal buck if its his first buck. My lease in Ga. whee I am the only one that hunts it I impose my own antler restrictions. If I see a buck I think is small but won't get much bigger I'll take him. If I think he has potential then I usually let him go, but sometime it just depends on the mood I'm in.

Besides there's no shame in your first deer being a doe. I would be willing to bet most of us remember every detail of the hunt when we killed our first buck, but only vaguely remember the first doe we killed. Right or wrong, It's just not the same feeling.

Hi All, Sorry to disagree here, but I can remember my first Deer very well is was a nice big Roe Doe, the first buck came along a few years later. Our seasons are different here, we have seperate seasons for Buck & Doe in Roe Deer, just now it's Buck season ;D plus most others, some do overlap.

Their talking about around here leagal Buck being 4 points on one side.
Biggest Deer body wise was 3 points on each side so it wouldn't be legal, which is BS.
