Well my best buddy finally got the buck he's been hunting all season, yesterday evening....Here goes the story....
It was Dec. 22, 2003 my buddy was hunting out of a box stand on his property. He had seen a large buck from this stand on several occasions but could not get a clean shot. It was getting late and he had seen several does and small bucks in the woods in front of the stand. Then he noticed a large racked buck moving in the shadows, the buck continued towards him at a steady pace when the huge buck was within shooting range he realized that it was the big boy that he had been hunting all season. Finally the buck presented him with a shot and he takes careful aim with his trusty .270 and pulls the trigger.....the deer goes down only to come right back up and bound out of sight into the thickest cut over in Mississippi. He goes over to where the big buck was standing and finds some hair and blood, he looks further and finds very small amounts of blood for a few yards and then...nothing...he continued to look for almost an hour to no avail.
He is severely shaken up by this and almost in a panic.
It is now Dec. 26, 2003, I join my buddy to hunt for the evening. I chose to hunt out of one of the stands on the opposite side of the road fom the box stand where he shot the big buck, so he says I'm going to hunt the big box stand where I saw the Big Boy again, We part ways and begin our hunt. Just about the time deer start to come out on me I hear a shot ring out from the big box stand. I sit watching the 2 does in front of me when my buddy comes running up on his 4 wheeler and says "you gotta come help me, I got 'em this time". We go back to the area where he shot the deer and find some good blood, but by this time it is getting dark, so we decide to go put our guns away and get some better flashlights, when we return we continue to find a good blood trail...but it goes right into that patch of the thickest cutover in Mississippi....we've got a good blood trail so we continue into the thicket on our hands and knees.....160 yards and 2 hours and 15 minutes later we find the BIG BOY...it takes us another hour and 1/2 to get him out of the thicket. I'm gonna tell ya this is one hunt that neither one of us will ever forget.
The first shot he made on the deer a week ago hit him right thru the bottom of his brisket..just a flesh wound.
Here he is....

We haven't green scored him yet, I think he will go at least in the 130 - 140 range
