Which are you? I am neither. I rarely keep a deer. I usually kill a 50-60# doe or button for myself and give the others I kill that year away. I just like to hunt. If someone has expressed a desire to have a deer I will try to kill them one. I have slacked off tremendously in my killing in the last few years. Back in the 90s 10-14 a year was common for me. This year Ive killed ony 5 so far. I dont see what the big deal about all the buck/doe thing is. Ive killed more than enough to know that the feeling is the same once you have decided to take the animal, if it isnt then you dont need to take that animal no matter how big or small it is. I was more jacked up over shooting the doe on video this year than I have ever been after my first deer. Hell the doe I shot with my pistol got me more excited than any of the 6-8pt bucks Ive killed. Only twice have I not been at the verge of being overcome by buck(deer) fever 1997 and last year. In 97 I just started hunting with the pistol when the excitement left with the rifle. Last year I killed 7 in october and pretty much quit hunting until this year. It seems to always return the next fall. When it doesnt I guess Ill leave the guns in the safe.

Hi All, Well the whole object for me is something to eat! now if I do get the chance of a nice set of antlers to remind me of the successful hunt, then that's fine too, in fact I still have the head of my Roe Buck shot last may in the freezer as I have not gotten around to get the skull cut to mount it. It will be just the front of the skull and the antlers on a small wooden shield. In fact I enjoy the outings whether I get a deer or not, not so much if I don't see any deer which is unusual, my freezer is a small one and it's getting low on venison so I need to get some more, so hold your fingers crossed for the 29th as that's my next trip, only 4 days to go and I am looking foward to it more than Christmas ;D Buck or Doe it won't matter to me, sure I would like a nice head, the chance of seeing and taking a medal head is always there where I am going, although I have yet to see a good medal head myself, I know they are there I just never seem to see them Does with Muntjac are always a problem, we only shoot very young yearlings or heavily pregnant older ones, nothing inbetween as they breed all year and a nice looking Doe will likely have a young one somewhere near by so if you shoot it's mum the young one will likely perish, but if the doe is very heavily pregnant the young one will be old enough to survive as she will drive it away a day or two before birthing the new one. So Bucks are first choice as you do not have to try and judge the stage of pregnancy with them We always watch the heavily pregnant does as a Buck will not be far away, they attend the Doe during birth so they are in place to mate her a few days after the birth when she comes on heat again, this does two things, it's provides the Doe some protection when she is most vunrable from preditors, yes Muntjac Bucks despite their small size can be very aggressive and it also stops her being pestered by lots of smaller, younger less dominant Bucks which also provides a steady population of Deer, even increasing it in favorable conditions.

The main reason I hunt is the enjoyment of going out in the woods, taking an animal due to my planning & skill, & preparing it for my family. I have no preference as to buck or doe. I will even pass on a young buck for a doe. I am not a trophyhunter by any means & I don't like the term sportsman (as it aludes to hunting as a sport). I heard the term 'Gentleman Hunter' recently & like how that sounds. So... I am a gentleman hunter.

I'm a bird hunter. I love shooting. I might draw some fire for this but here goes. I love making the shot. I do love to eat game and I won't shoot anything I can't/won't eat. But, I really love making the shot and seeing the game go down.

only bucks and must have 4 points on one side per our law here in pa. thats the law and we like it.we were born to hunt bucks, its tradition here. i guess a little red neck life,ha.honestly, if you saw the hunting we used to have you would never shoot a female deer. we were raised that way and i have no interest in a female deer.also, i dont brag and i am not a bigshot. we hunt for challenge .you dont get that with female hunting, trust me.take care all

I just love to hunt. I would rather have the rack than the meat. Getting a doe is no problem down here. I do eat the meat and like it,but I am a rack man.

filhuntress, i wish i could invite you up here to hunt but i am having health problems this year.there is no comparison to a doe and buck hunting here in my area of pa.the old doe taught the young buck every trick in the book. a buck here is no doubt more crafty than a doe.i seen bucks here tuck thee horns on their backs so i could not see the horns. its almost like they are crawling on the ground and they do that too, [crawl].i bet you never saw that?i did, mant times, oh well, the memories, ahhhhhhh

I guess I am lucky. On my lease, the land owner wants us to take 8 pts or bigger and they must be 4 years of age or older. After you take your buck, you can take 2 doe.
