I am off today and tomorrow, so I get to hunt. I went out this morning, with full intentions of dropping the hammer on a big doe. I have 1 buck tag left, but it has to be a buck with 4pts on one side or bigger. I got out to the stand, and there were huge tracks in the fresh snow. I sat for about 45 minutes when I see the doe I was looking for. She is a real hog. She came in all by herself. I sat with the crosshairs on her for about 20 minutes, when she starts getting real jumpy. I look around, nuttin. I get the crosshairs back on her again, getting ready to drop the hammer, and she starts prancing around, and doing that head bobbing business looking back into the brush. Then I hear CRACK!!!!!! Now shes real nervous. I keep her in the scope, but I cant see anything else around. Then, she takes off like a shot. I hear one more loud crack come from the brush then I see it, ANTLERS!!!!!!!! He steps out in the wide open, a nice buck. I throw the scope on him, and he's only a 6pt, 3 on each side. He hangs out there for 25 minutes, and I still cant grow that 4th point on one side. He slowly moves off.
I look over to my left, and I can see a deer bedded 75 yards away. I can see its face really good, and it has the pronounced dark brown flat spot on top of its head.
I keep scopin' him, but I cant pick out antlers in the brush. After about 15 minutes, he stands, and walks about 10 yards, body in full view, antlers not in view. After 20 minutes of heart pounding excitement, he steps into a clearing, showing me his impressive set of anters, all 4pts of them. I watch him for about 10 more minutes before he decides to go to the thick stuff for the day.
Not a bad morning in anyones book, but when I go to shoot a doe, I see bucks, when I go to shoot a buck, I see does. Oh well, maybe that hog of a doe will be back later today, or maybe that 6pt will grow another tine. ;D ;D ;D
