6 point this morning

160# 6 point with a broke off brow tine..so would have been a 7... I got in the stand at about 6:55..let things settle...hit the lil can and here something coming from back behind me to the right...a big bobcat...I remember what deerslayer said..bust them in the gut if I shoot them with the 06..so I wait for a clear shot..boom..cat takes off..well I hear what I think is the cat flopping around down there so I climb down walk about 40 yds to where I shot, and I hear the bobcat take off through the brush towards the creek..there was no way I hit that bobcat the way he was running..and thankful I didn't cause when I got ome I checked and bobcat season here in zone 5 don't start till the 27th I would have been in trouble...so I dodged that bullet..then I hear something to my right..the way the wind was blowing...I could see it was a deer but not if a buck or doe...had it's head behind a tree...I knew it knew something wasn't right...I kneeled down...seemed like forever, but he poked his head out from behind the tree and I shot him right in the neck...dropped in his tracks


I'm having a good year this year with bucks...got three bucks at the processors now and my freezer is full...family and friends are getting alot of meat this year...today and tomorrow are doe days...so if I hunt this evening thats all I can shoot, and I hate shooting does during the rut while it's going strong.. Carol just left out to go hunting for the rest of the day...worked third shift last night...comes in the driveway just in time to help me drag this last buck out the woods...I am wiating to hear the crack of her rifle today..like Flhuntress said...she's putting in her time..ahe is even seeing deer...shot at some too...she saw a bunch of turkeys yesterday

I love taking those neck shots if they are close enought and the opportunity presents itself......you just don't have to do any tracking !

Man, I wish we could shoot a bunch of deer like you southern boys...in Wisconsin here, for the most part it is one per year !

HNI version: First you miss a poaching shot at a bobcat and then you take a neck shot obviously in cover at a substandard buck.

I am still seeing bucks chasing does...the big old six point I missed is still around and the 12 point Duck and I saw is still around too...we are finding fresh deer sign everyday....Carol shot "at them" so much today I thought she took the shotgun and was shooting at dove...her uncle and family were here for the weekend and he left a spike and two scrub buck 4 points walk...skeeter came up and saw a few does but was hunting horns..I gave up my stand for her uncle and skeeter to hunt while they were here..saw lots of does and as much as I need to shoot some of them to thin them out..I guess I'm hunting horns now too..
