how big was your smallest deer...the reason i ask is that one of my huntin' buddies took a 54lb. doe which wasn't any bigger than my lil dog...i'm sure she'll be good eatin' but to me that's way out of line...i think only reason he took it was so he could say he didn't go deerless during muzzleloading...earlier he had missed a buck 4times due to his safety being on and then he missed a doe,had another come by but never got a shot, and then this lil thing came along. what bothers me too is that i gave up my doe permit so he could claim it...yeah i got half the meat but it still bothers me that he killed such a lil dog...oops i mean deer...lol. and y'all's feelings on this......??

well the smallest I took wasn't much bigger than that..if that..it was a wounded yearliing doe..skeeter had made a bad shot on the night before..I have no problem busting the first doe that walks out on me once season starts cause it's probably been awhile since I had any backstraps and the doe to buck ratio is so out of wack around here...I acually ask hunters to take a doe first if they see it ( not during the rut ) and am thankful they do it...some have taken small does..skeeter shoots a button buck about everytime he comes to hunt even though he knows I like to let the little bucks walk, but I don't mind..some people hunt meat...thats not much meat though...but pretty cool of you to give up your tag for him..pat yourself on the back..you deserve it

Two button bucks, probably twins, they were traveling together.I was only dissapointed because they were small, don't care that they were bucks. An antlerless tag here means that, antlerless.

I shot a doe that weighed maybe 70 pounds. She was standing in the middle of a pasture about 150 yds. out and I had no reference point to tell how small she was. When I got out there to her I felt pretty bad. I felt better when we ate that tender meat but I would rather let the does live long enough to start bearing twins. I won't shoot a button anymore if I can tell thats what it is. I've got no ill feelings towards those that bust the little ones but I won't do it if I can help it. Just me though. I know here in Georgia that they are out of control and it wouldn't hurt to shoot the little ones too.

I shot a yearling once when I was still in the "numbers" stages with my bow. I don't know how much she weighed but I put her in a five gallon bucket (body still completely intact, except I did gut her) and closed the lid.

can't pat myself on the back cause we had planned on sharing my permit BUT not until after 12:00...he shot it way early so if hm or i would have had a chance someone would have been screwed....probably him cause hm would have gotten the tag over him anyday.....
4pt.-this one probably could have fit in a 5 gallon bucket also.

Ive passed up a hundred but Ive killed 3 or 4 that weight or less with the bow. They are a heck of alot easier to carry out and are some of the best eating things you could taste. Last year, one of the does I shot went just over 54lbs. Actually, I passed her up once and she looked alot bigger from 25 ft up in the tree.

If I can tell it is a yearling I just let it walk. If I am hunting for meat, it's nice to get meat.
I would rather pass on the yearlings and just watch them feed.

FL, what you get, abount 5 pounds ??
I've shot 6 month old nubbins bucks, you get about 25 pounds of meat max out of these ! I usually try to shoot something with a little more meat on it. Most of mine goes into sausage, so it doens't have to be the most tender in the world !
