I got a little time to decide, but I am considering joining a differnet club for next year. There are several factors that I have to weigh out. Cost is not an issue because both clubs dues are close to the same.
The Big Swamp (current club) Positives: HUGE! Over 30,000 acres Lots of game. If you can hunt it in Georgia, it's on the Big Swamp. Family atmosphere Know the members (many are family)
Negatives: 80 miles round trip just to get there & back. Because of the distance & my work schedule, I can't hunt as often as I want. Timber companies are clear cutting everywhere (It will grow back, but in how many years?)
South Diamond (possible new club)
Positives: The club surrounds my house. Because of how close I will live, I can hunt more often. Better Deer & Turkey Hunting. Access to Satilla River Club members are from local area (my kids go to school with their kids)
Negatives: Not knowing what to expect. Not as big (although it is fairly large). No Bear. I don't think a lot of the women & children hunt (although the membership is for families).
I will be checking into the new club further (lots of questions) before making a decision. I guess I'm looking for some comments & concerns to help me with my decission.

The close ones are nice. I used to be in one less than a mile from the house. It was nice to be able to hunt in only a few minutes if you got tied up doing something around the house. The one im in now is on the other side of the nest county. It is probably 30+ miles one way also. So I feel your pain.

Hunt clubs are not really that big around here. We only have one that I know of close by and from what I've heard, public land is just as good or maybe better. I guess it's all in how they are managed.

There are numerous wma's in the area. The biggest problems with them are too many people & too few open days.

You should go as a guest if you can and check things out. And the important thing, do they turn out the hounds?
