Well I applied for 6 tags and got one, antlerless mule deer. Was hoping to get the bull moose draw but not for another year.Archery antelope will be a lock next year and should get rifle antelope the following season. The special elk draws are a few years away yet,but I can hunt bull elk with an over the counter tag.
Going down into S.W. Alberta again this year for 10 days for elk and deer end of sept.Looking forward to that trip, last year was a blast. We didn't get an elk but we sure killed a bunch of deer with the bows.
Been scouting some new property we just got permission to hunt on,almost 4000 acres in the archery zone on the northern edge of the city of Calgary. This place hasn't been hunted in over 20 years and we got exclusive rights to it.Mostly mule deer but there are a few white tails, haven't seen any bucks yet(white tail). There are some outstanding mule deer bucks there and I'm hoping to get a chance at em in early sept.

I would think you could just get tags for everything up there as small as the population is.

Shorthair,we can.I can get tags for most big game over the counter, except for antelope, mtn goat and grizzly bear. The draws allow me to get into some special hunts or management areas where pressure can be high.Moose is a prime example. They're a highly sought after animal here. There's no shortage of them but they are controlled to keep from being over harvested. The city of Calgary has a million people and there's alot of pressure put on game anywhere within a hundred miles of the city.I can go 5 minutes north of my place and harvest white tails but I have to have a draw to take a mulie with a rifle, how ever I can take a mule deer with a bow during the archery season without the draw.
We've been scouting almost every evening and are seeing lots of mule deer bucks and have seen some real hawgs but that area is tough to hunt. It's open country, mostly agriculture and putting a stalk on those deer is a challenge. There's no place to put in tree stands and I hate hunting in blinds, plus you can't really pattern a mule deer like you can a white tail.Just when you think you've got them figured out they change their plans and blow any plans you made out of the water. We've got roughly 20,000 acres to hunt on and lots of game.

I'm looking forward to the pictures. Every year when I see the pictures from your hunts I want to come spend a week with y'all.
