OK, Sunday morning Thanksgiving weekend I knew it would be my last day to fill my tag. So I told myself that I was not going to go without some vension this year and I was going to take the first good doe or buck I see.
We left the house at 8:30 am. (we know not to hit this spot too early)
We got up there by 10:00 am. We played around for about 30 minutes then caught movement below us. My partner went left and I went right, following the tracks in the snow until we could see the deer.
I caught more movement and found three does about 100 yards off feeding on a tree that fell over. My buddy is looking the same way and is telling me to take the shot. I didn't have one through the trees and was trying to move into position. I told him they are all does, but one was good. He said shoot!
So she finally moved where I could get a shot. BANG! The 358 Savage Levergun hit right where it should and she ran about 40 yards or more right at me! She stopped below me and looked back. I did not want her to take off below into the canyon so I dropped her where she stood with a shot through the neck.
My partner comes over to me and says,"Didn't you see that big buck?!!"
I says,"WHAT BIG BUCK!!!" He says, "He was standing about 50 yards above the doe you shot!" I says, "Why didn't you tell me?" He says, "I thought you saw him and that is what you were shooting at!"
When I shot, two deer bolted from where I shot and three more bolted where my partner was looking! Either way it was a good hunt and I filled my tag. The doe is about 125# on the hook. Bigger than the buck I shot last year! We left the house at 8:30 am and had the deer skinned and on the hook by 2:00pm. So not bad for a few hours work!
Meat in the freezer!!! So I guess I am now officially a doe killer!
