Swampbird, I've read the arguments for not killing snakes and I don't go looking for them. But if I'm out with the dog and I come across one, better him than the dog. I hunt plenty of places with a lot of rattlers and I've only had to kill one that was a threat.
I don't go out gassing dens and I'd just as soon not see another one in my lifetime. They can eat rats and mice 'til they bust but I'd just as soon they keep a good distance from me.

Always gotta wear your snakeboots here... We have lots of those and copperheads...get around the beaverponds and creeks and the cottonmouths are everywhere....last year saw lots of large kingsnakes and not as many rattlers... just need to make the kids aware of the things..they use to run out the yard straight into the woods without looking for nothing but the ball or whatever....now they do better after seeing me skin a few big'uns out and show them the fangs
