Thinking about Taking a trip to hunt Elk next year, I have a couple .30-06s and a .300winmag. Me and a friend were going to go and I was thinking about letting him use my 300 and getting a .338. Would yall do that, or just use one of the 06s wwith heavier bullets?

DS, I have never hunted elk, yet, but I would say shoot whatever gun you shoot the best. The '06 has enough to kill anything on the North American Continent, and the .338 is just an awesome round, as is the 300 WinMag. Judging by some of the targets I have seen you post in the past, I would think you should be able to use any gun in your arsenal.

Well if it was me , I 'd be taking the 30:06 and the 300 win mag ! I would have them both using a 165 gr. bonded core bullet - that both rifles shot well . I'm basing this because I use both of these caliber on moose all the time with these bullets and have know trouble . If you were going to hunt , were a 338 win mag was going to used more than a few times then I would say buy on ! But you don't need to just to shot elk ! Regards Bullet
