Kentucky's elk population

Is estimated at almost 6000 right now and 100 elk permits will be drawn this year. I'm not sure when the drawing is held but they've not called me yet ;D
Within five years they are predicting that 1500 will be harvested per season.
I just think it's pretty cool that a animal that has been gone for a hundred plus years is doing so well since be reintoduced into the state.

It would cool to have elk here. I could bring one down and fill the freezer, then I could bird hunt the rest of the season.
