I've shot them before but only when they happened into my path. I've heard of guys using bait post with whole chickens.
And welcome to the board, brother. Glad you found us.

Next time you see one try to squeal like a baby rabbit. them and foxes will usually come in to that.

DG
Like has already been mentioned, squealing like a small creature, rabbit, mouse, etc. will draw one's attention quick. Buy yourself a "squeaker" type predator call and keep it (and gun) with you anytime you go to the woods. If you happen to spot a cat, coyote, or other predator, start working the call very softly and be ready to shoot.
If you don't have a call, try sucking on the back or inside of your hand to produce a similar squeak or squeal. It works just as well and is much cheaper.
Good luck.

Hey deergrower, if you can use electronic calls in your state, use a cotton cries tape. If not just buy a mouth call. I yote hunt often with the cottoncries tape and call in a bobcat or cougar from time to time with it. Let me know your results. Just remember that a bobcat will take around 45 minutes to work up to the sound. Be still and dont give up. Alot of hunters wont see anything coming, not realizing that something is stalking up to the tape.

Know the game laws in your state. Here in Georgia, you can only use rimfire rifles on bobcat. There have been a many a good hunters fined & had their bobcat confiscated when they took it to a taxadermist after shooting it with their deer rifle.
