you were NOT raised as a hunter. a hunter takes care of the population so he can continue to hunt. YOU were raised as a trophy taker, going for glory. why in the HELL would the dcnr want to eliminate the herd. wouldn't they need a deer herd to have a job??? "only girls can shoot does" "keep yer women folk in the kitchen" "women can't vote" nice outdated thinking caveman

Hey guys,
I saw where this was going yesterday.
I'll keep this up and running but I will not tolerate insults. Beliefs are beliefs and that's the beauty of a democratic society.
State your point and let's hold off on the insults.
Thanks guys.

I am not going after commanche personally. I would like to try and change his way of thinking. The guys from Georgia are saying they are seeing better deer. Besides Georgia's runaway population do you know why their limits were changed? I will tell you Alabama. Unless I am mistaken you can kill more deer here than anywhere else. Especially does. Hell I could kill 50+ does legally if I wanted to. Gerogia was still an old school state. As the changes have come they are noting better herds.
Now where I live at in Alabama is the restoration managment mentality that you have. Due to this being a National Forest we have 2 or 3 doe days. This year is 5. The numbers are so low because we have to petition the dnr to change it from stuff that was on the books when Moses was a scout. I will tell you about our heard. We have deer behind every tree. Hell you might as well shoot that spike because next year he will bbe a spike with some bumps on his rack. Never mind that his body is that of a yearling doe in most places. We plain and simply have too many deer. Yes thats right too many. The ydont get big, not that we will ever grow a world record but theer are too many on the land for them to even reach what potential they have.
So we can be manly and shoot scrawny bucks or we can shoot does. I have 5 acres and this year I have got fed up and am not even hunting my stands in the National Forest. I am thining the heard on 5 acres, 3 of which I can hunt.
Do you want your state to wind up like this? I think not. Your post give me the impression you like big racks. Well with too many deer you want develope big racks. I dont care if mossy horns is 8 years old. With too little browse he will fall from a wall hanging 12 to a scraggaly 6.
And if you think shooting does is for young boys and slightly older girls I have a 6 year old doe here you are welcome to kill. She aint 6 for no reason.

Isn't the limit in Alabama one deer per day for the gun season & 2 per day for bows?

i may be a woman and not a lil girl but i'm far from "too old" to kill a doe. i'm very proud of every deer i kill. with proper management you will see that it benefits the entire deer population....hopefully you'll be able to see that but if you decide to never shoot a doe then so be it....that's your choice. why don't you go talk to some of the biologists in the area.....try to find one that hunts and let him talk to you. try to have an open mind.

I will concede that you may be right about the deer population in PA. I know nothing about Pa. But, the deer population in Ga NEEDS to be thinned by taking does. There is no dishonor here for doing so. In fact, to kill a doe in Ga is being a good steward of nature. It is not that you choose to kill only monster bucks that bothers me. It is that you degrade everyone that chooses to take does in their area. Or those that hunt to put meat in the freezer instead of antlers on the wall. Pa is not Ga & the conditions are not the same. For example, every article written on scouting talks about terrain & finding saddles in ridges. THERE ARE NO RIDGES HERE. It is flat as a pancake. Also, it has been over 10 years since a single snowflake has fallen here. Don't presume that because you know everything about hunting in Pa that you know everything about hunting everywhere. Don't hunt does if you choose. I don't care.

noonebil most of Alabama is now full season doe days for gun. There are 5 different seasons deppending where in the state 71 day, 47 day, 33 day,18 day, and 6 day(all National Forests). You can get 2 a day durring thease seasons only one of which can be antlered buck.
