Well was this a special Peckeradoodle do or was it any Peckeraldoo. I couldn't resist. It's the Devil... trust me. ANYWAY, when I grew up(family of 5 kids) we were on the poor side. We made do with lots of garden(3 acres), lots of canning, hunting etc etc. Anyway, we always raised chickens for eggs, eating and canning. When mom got ready to do some canning we'd do 10 or 15 of the hens at a time(as many as 20 once that I remember) Anyway, we boys had to coral them in the hen house, bring them outside to the big chopping block where we had a couple 20 penny nails tacked in it about3/4 inch apart. We'd lay the birds neck between the nails, pull on his feet stretching his neck and then someone would chop of his head with one nice swipe of the ax. The stretcher then tossed the bird onto the lawn where they'd flop and carry on forever it seems. I remember one time someone gave us a big turkey for Thanksgiving. Well, he told us to put the bird in a bag before we chopped his head cause he'd be fighting and flapping his wings otherwise. So we backed this 25 pound bird into a burlap bag, stretched his neck and I was the choppie. Well, I kind of almost got it all, but it was still hanging.. anyway, before we could close the bag on the bird he got his wings free and was flailing and blood was flying and my younger brother dropped the bag in self defense. Our house was on a hill with the barn/garage at the bottom about 25 yards away. This big bird got himself righted and took off flying with his head hanging by some skin. He smacked into the peak of the two story garage and came flapping to the ground... where he thrashed and flopped and just made a scene. The only thing sadder as a child was the day we tried to slit the throat of a pig we'd raised. He was an honorary pet. We raised two of them, blackie and brownie. After the ordeal with brownie old blackie bought a 308 slug behind the ear. Yuk.
