why is that poachers and unethical hunters seem to get game all the time and the one's who bust their ass don't? i'm just urked...found out the jerk that turned me in for poaching last year because he thought i was huntin' his area poached a doe last nite...dropped it off at home and then came to the check station with his idiot poachin' buddy and flat out lied...hm and i knew something was up but there wasn't anything we could do about it...today we got word that there was proof so i went and checked it out...sure enough they drug a deer out.
btw-i never poached...gw's stopped investigating as soon as they found out it was my truck....they know i'd never do it....even though i was tempted today just because i'm gettin' urked that i haven't got a deer yet. only thing stopped me was me not seein' a deer and knowing i'd be just like them which wasn't going to happen.

Because they are unethical and poachers. If you know someone is doing it, you NEED to report it and they should be prosecuted to the fullest. Poaching laws, in my opinion, are too lean. I read stuff all the time were poachers are caught and get off on probation and lose their right to hunt for 2 or 3 years......that's BS. They need to go to jail for 2 or 3 years and lose the right to hunt forever.
It's so much more rewarding to know that you worked within the confines of legality to fill a freezer.

Darling that's just life isn't it? It always appears that the slugs of this world always get by while the hard working honest folks get pooped on. That's a ploy the devil uses to get you to come over to his side where all the slugs are. Just remember that everybody gets what's coming to them in time. You might not ever see it but it will happen.

I think poaching laws should be toughened but am kinda torn by a situation one of my cousins found himself in. He had two young children below age 5. He poached a deer for food. In his words "I killed a deer, I was not hunting." Ken is an ethical hunter and a good dude. I know if I was in a similar situation I am feeding my family. I am concered with these dumbass zero tolerance type laws we see today. While this is just as illegal as gomer poacher at night in a truck with a light I do think the intent and circumstances should be factored.

man it drives me crazy..they poach around me all the time..I call...don't know if anything is ever done or if somebody gets caught..I still hear the rifles..so evidently somebody is still getting away with it..it made Carol so mad the other evening she just got down....some of the new laws they got going now are working but they are about to cut the GW's down to just one per county..it's hard for them to control all whats going on
you did good...don't stoop....I hunt meat mostly so when the freezer is full I try to get a nice buck...I build my stands.. plant plots...feed the deer bout year round..planted more percimmon and got some peach trees ready to go in the woods for the deer...nothing but state forest around me and the refuge and it's almost all planted pine..got some hardwood bottoms near the creeks here and good bedding areas..

in the paper today there was an article about poaching and the judges who don't do crap....one judge actually ordered these teen poachers to pay a fine of $3....that pissed me right off. the biologist in charge of the wma was notified about yesterdays dumbass and i went out and took pics for him...even got his cane indention that was right next to the drag....so busted but nothing will probably be done about it.

RedOak brings up a good point.
I really don't think it's "unethical" to feed your family.

it doesn't make it right but i'm not gonna dog someone who's feeding his family...it's got to be hard on someone to have to cross that line or make that choice when he or she is an ethical hunter....i hope i never have to be in the position but it could happen to any of us in a blink of an eye.

I also have to agree with RO. I think if you are providing food for yourself and your family it should not be considered poaching. To me there is a difference between trophy hunting and hunting for survival.
FL don't stoop to that level.
