do y'all have any traditions before or after a hunt?
i always listen to this tape i made...first song is an edited version of the dance by garth in memory of dale-#3...it's an older man reading a poem he had written about dale...it's awesome....that's followed by "pass it on" by tracy byrd....gotta bring my "cardeer necklace" too...and afterwards if i got something i do the "i'm too sexy for my camo" victory dance. ;D
also say prayers...can't believe i forgot that one.

I just before every hunt wish that everyone in the woods has a safe hunt and that everyone goes into them like they came out under their own power.

Take a bath, brush my teeth and put on my clothes. It's been working for years for me. ;D Now afterwards when doghunting on Saturday we have campfire and we grill and have adult beverages.

I lost my necklace on the half rack four point I had to drag by myself..but killed an another 8 and a 6 afterwards...but it could have been my lucky miller lite boxers I had on..don't know..hard to say

Prayer before & after every hunt. Also, a first kill gets a bloody face. This years tradition is to come home & tell my wife I didn't see anything.

I believe it to be bad luck when someone wishes me good luck I guess a tradition of mine would be that I pick the arrow that I will shoot first. I rotate them in my quiver until I find one that works This year it just so happens it was the first arrow I chose.

As I was growing up & going hunting with my grandfather, we always hunted Paulk's Pasture (before it was management land). Every year, the owners of the property invited 100 or so friends to attend 'The Big Hunt'. Most were CEO's & company presidents. Some were big game hunters. Others were first time hunters. Those that had helped out in preparation, driving, dogging, etc were also mixed in (as was the case of me & my grandfather). There were several hundred dogs brought in & races were everywhere. On Saturday after lunch, 'court' was always held. First kills & misses were 'tried before the court'. First kills were smeared with blood. Misses had their shirt tail cut (women that missed had their elastic on their panties cut). Everyone gathered around the judges truck (he was actually a retired judge that was probably 70-80 at the time). It was a great time with much laughter & friendship. There was lots of story telling & light hearted ribbing.

We don't have court but you will pay a dollar a miss at our place and you will have much laughter and story telling.

that sounds AWESOME....wish i could experience something like that first hand but i don't see that happening anytime soon. and cuttin' the elastic in the woman's panties?? why wouldn't y'all just cut their shirts too? i think i'd be havin' issues if someone came close to my undies with a sharp object...but then again they'd be cheaper to replace. ;D

I hunted one of those pay by the day place with my uncle once that did the shirttail cutting. I was about 19 and made around $6.50 an hr. I was wearing the only camo clothing I owned at the time and I think it was all woodland from Skycity or Kmart. I was scared to death I was gonna miss when I shot at the little buck that walked out. I had saved all year to make the trip and was terrified that I would have to wait a couple checks to be able to get another shirt....
Those were the days.... I make alot more money now, but I think I would go back and relive those days anytime.....
My only tradition is my hat. I had a woodland hat my mom gave me in the 1st grade, I killed everything I ever killed wearing it, then after the 97 season it got gone I dont know what happened to it but I havent had a really good year since. 97 was my best year I shot 12 deer. I think I only killed 2 deer the next year and maybe 2 in 99 and 00. Mom gave me another woodland hat in 01 and I started killing again. I think I shot 7 or 8 In 01.

My uncle, cousin and myself always sit on the same log before we go up to our hunting spots. I put in my last dip of Gold River that I have until I get to my hunting spot. When I get to my spot, I take off my fanny pack, take out my binoculars, get a drink of water, and put in the dip of Gold River I will have until I see a deer. Sometimes I have it in for a long time. Oh well, I have a great time every time I am in the woods, wheter I kill anything or not.
