I've been known to be in a KY duck blind Sunday morning and back in time for church. I miss some Sunday's due to hunting, but try to limit it as much as possible.
I've been bear hunting in Virginia this year and they DON"T allow Sunday hunting...period. I wonder why they allow the Redskins to play Sunday afternoon...are all golf courses, parks, lakes, etc. etc. closed on Sunday?
Does anyone know how many states don't allow hunting on Sunday.

This Sunday, while visiting a local church, the preacher was discussing making time to attend church (with emphasis on every time the doors are open). She specifically commented on hunters making time to hunt on Sunday morning 'sitting in the cold woods for hours waiting on Bambi to walk by so they can destroy it' but not having time for church. I took mild offense that hunting was singled out & presented in such a negative manner. Fortunately, we were invited to attend a covered dish dinner after church. I had the opportunity to comment on this to the preacher. I made it clear that I understood she needed an illustration but felt her discription of hunting was most unflattering & I didn't appreciate it. I further went on to comment that golf probably keep more people out of church than hunting. She appologized say she didn't realize her comments could be considered unflattering & that she agreed that golf probably kept more people out of church than hunting. It was a good conversation & I feel she walked away with a different perspective of hunters.

Bil, that's the kind of sermon that would keep me out of that church.
Sounds like you made the best of your opportunity and did better than I would have. I'd have probably let my mouth overrun my brain.

This preacher was visiting as this church was starting it's revival week. I'm pretty thick skinned when it comes to getting upset. I find it better to calmly communicate my feelings than to lose my cool. People expect hunters to be beer swilling, gun crazy, uneducated, uncooth, law breaking, toothless idiots that will kill anything that moves in the woods. I like to show them different. I try to find opportunities on a local level to promote hunters as above average ethical people. Some of my conversations at the dance studio my daughter attends can be pretty interesting.

i commend you on your level head.....i probably would have got up and left at that point and then proceeded to write a nasty letter...being bitchy is a gift but then again it'd be times like that that i wish i wouldn't have a temper so i wouldn't make myself and other hunters look like idiots.

I'm with Thunderstorm.........I can hunt birds and still get to church. If I miss Sunday morning, I'll go Sunday night.
A closed Walmart?
What states are these? I'll make sure to never move there.

Nitro, I actually got to see a bear twice. I saw him once about 250 yards away and called him to about 75 yards with a fawn distress call. It's amazing how something that big and shiney can disappear. Bow, ground blind, close & hidden bear = no more fawn distress calling Gun season opens Dec. 1. We had better luck deer hunting. I got one about the same size as yours and the better half got a real nice 9 pointer.
