Earnhardt Jr. fined $10,000, loses 25 points October 5, 2004 09:33 AM EDT (13:33 GMT)
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla -- Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was penalized with a loss of 25 championship driver points and a $10,000 fine for an inappropriate post-race comment during the live national television broadcast of Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR officials announced Tuesday.
Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet, was in violation of Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Rule Book for using inappropriate language.
The penalty also will extend to the team as Dale Earnhardt Inc. will lose 25 championship owner points for the actions of its driver.
Earnhardt Jr.'s championship points total will be adjusted from 5,543 points to 5,518 as a result of the penalty, and will drop him from first to second in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup.
Kurt Busch and Roush Racing will assume the lead with 5,530 points, 12 ahead of Earnhardt Jr. and DEI, respectively.

HAHAHAHA he should have been fined..He is no different from any other driver...He deserved to get docked the points and to be fined as they have done that all year to any other driver that has cussed..I don't care if it was because of jubliation or not..Everyone has made him out to be the golden child but he isn't.>He is riding his daddies coattail...So the punishment is fair and if he had not gotten it I would have been very pissed and would have told you that Nascar is rigged to make sure he wins the championship..

Y'all know I don't do the NASCAR thing but since when is it a crime for a stockcar to say crap? I haven't followed NASCAR since they came out with restrictor plates. Things have really gone to the dogs if you get fined in points for cursing. If a redneck loses his chance at a title for saying a little dirty word immediately following a race something is bad wrong. Next thing you know they won't be allowed to eat grits and eggs for breakfast and they'll have to start drinking unsweetened tea.
How long has this rule been in effect?(Probably since they took the name Winston Cup down and put up that Nextel horsecrap!) Ok I'll go back to the other forums now, before I offend someone by saying crap or something. ;D

Ok KY, I was going to bite my tongue, but I decided against it. It that was your driver that was excited as all get out, you would be pissed off too. It aint like he said the F word, or was cussing AT someone. Hell, I have heard priests say worse than that. Its a sad day when the drivers of the race have to pre-record a victory speech so they are politically correct. I hope Jr comes back and kicks some serious booty on the remaining races, just to rub a few noses in it.
PS: I really dont think he is riding his daddy's coattails, the boy has talent, but fans of other drivers refuse to see that, and always have to throw in the "daddy's coattails" statement.

Buck..I have never liked Jr....I am a Jeremy Mayfield fan as I know you are probably thinking I am a Gordon fan..Well I am his fan but Jeremy comes first... What gets me is you can not watch a race without them uttering Jr Jr Jr 5 million times during the race..Even when he is having a bad race... They make him out to be the best driver out there..He is not IMHO....I do believe he is riding his dads coat tail..I won't back down from that statement..Ever since his dad got killed they have made it all about him like they owe him..They don't..He needs to drive and earn his respect like every other driver has... I am not about to bite my tongue when it comes to Jr...I plain and simple don't like him..And I have heard some of the stuff he has said on fanscan and he is not a bit nice about anything and he cusses like a sailor...I honestly don't think the word he said is a bad word but they had to fine him as they have to try and stay consistent with their rulings..Nascar that is...If they had not fined him I would have been pissed....If he is the one they have to make an example of then so be it..It could happen to any of the drivers and they would do the same! Now I am not going to get in an argument with you over this..If you want to rim me out anymore about Jr feel free to PM me because I am not causing a ruckus on the board...Just staying the way I feel about Jr as honestly as I can..

KY, I am not trying to start anything with you, just calling it like I see it. I will even go so far as to say that they cover Jr quite a bit, but I think its the whole marketing thing. Budweiser shells out some serious bucks, and thats who they have been talking about. I think they could even through Mayfield in that #8 car, and have Mayfields name thrown around alot. ;D ;D
We'll see how the season wraps up, but I think it will be rotten if Jr loses the championship by 24 points. If he loses, I hope its by at least 26 points.

I won't commit about the points thing but I have a feeling Nascar is paving the way for Jr to win..

Considering that other drivers were fined & docked points I think the same was in order for Jr. My only problem with it is that the other drivers were docked points when there were 100's of points spread. Jr's 25 point fine is HUGE considering NASCAR's 10 race showdown format. I'm not saying he should have gotten off scott free, but you don't hang a man for stealing a stick of gum. Get in his pocketbook heavy. Don't mess with points at this stage of the game. That goes for all drivers & all offenses.
BTW, I'm not a fan of Jr. GO, MARK MARTIN!!!

Is all this controversy part of a grand scheme to breath new life into this sport. You know like the theory that New Coke was just a ploy to fire up Coca-Cola.

i agree that he should have been fined but to take his points away was total bs.....i hope he appeals and wins. I hope to goodness he doesn't win the appeal..He shouldn't win it as the others have tried and not won and if he wins it will show Nascars bias toward him!!!

I think its BS. If I were him I would race the car he owns and would light up every interview I did. He aint gonna be hurtin for money for a WHILE. 10k to him is like 50 bucks for us... Just the fine may have been understandable, but the points went too far.
