I've had my lab Maggie for three years and this will be her fourth season coming up. She performs wonderfully in the blind (dove or duck) but she doesn't like feathers in her mouth. Now it's that time of year when we start working her in the yard with frozen birds from last season. It usually takes her a few retrieves to bring the bird all the way back to me without dropping it but she always comes around by opening day. Today was our first session of 2007 and she brought the first one all the way back without dropping it. You can tell she doesn't like picking up the dead bird but she acts like she knows it's her job and she just does it. I am really becoming a huge fan of Labrador Retrievers after a long love affair with German Shorthairs.

A lab that doesn't like feathers in its mouth!!! Oh my gawd, that just ain't right ;D. My pard is traing his choc. lab right now and he don't seem to like feathers either (6 months old).He wants to pick up the duck by the wing tips. On another note we went out on saturday to scout some local sloughs for ducks and it looks like we're going to have a good opener, sept 8.There are hundreds upon hundreds of mallards on them right now. We'll go in friday evening and set our decoy spreads for the morning shoot then look out saturday morning ;D.
