Back in the 70's, we stocked Russian hogs from Ohio in the area. We continued to restock them all over and now most of the hogs in 75 miles contain russian blood and in some areas they are almost pure. We release all russian looking hogs, slaughter any feral looking hogs not matter what size they are. There ain't nothing better roasted than a 15-50 lb.'er. LOL There are good numbers here so we don't have to worry about catching them out. We have barred a few but usually we just slaughter them to eat and we really don't catch that many red, spotted or other feral colored hogs. Most of what we catch, since we have used this practice locally for the last 5 years, is either russian looking or solid black which we will accept and release so we don't catch a lot of hogs that we want to kill. Of the 18 or so trophy boars we have caught this year, we have only killed 4, 2 to be mounted and 2 had some white on them. The rest were released to fight again one day in another area we have and seldom hunt.

there are all kinds of dogs,it depends how you decide to hunt, we use kemmer curs and catahoulas and have been for a long time. the curs are medium range with a good nose and can be gritty. the catahoulas are short to medium range, good nose(not as good as the curs)but rough and nasty. we run tracking collars and vest on all our dogs. and we keep staple guns with us at all times. hog hunting with dogs will get in your blood.it;s a great sport
