Hunt #1 Last Friday
We got a call that a big boar had been tearing up some peanuts and blueberries a guy had right on the city limits of the local town. Turned loose right at dark and about 15 later minutes my dog started baying. I knew it was a good hog by the sound of her voice. After fighting our way acroos hedge high blueberry bushes we heard the other dogs hit and right inside the woods across the field they had a boar about 220 caught. He cut my track dog across the nose but damage was minimal. Cuffed and had him out less than 45 minutes after we turned loose.
HUnt #2 Last Sat. night
Hit a peanut field after dark where hogs had been hitting. Guess we hit a bunch of them in a head between two fields cause one tried to cross a peanut field. MY track dog tried to do some casteration on the boar and stopped and had him bayed. We beat the other dogs there as they were off on other hogs and got to see the whole catch wind down. The first bulldog there went airborne as the hog threw him about 6 feet in the air for 3 flips. The crew got there though and he was subdued in short order. He weighed about 200 lb. and had some dog killer 2 1/2 inch teeth that stuck straight out. Damge done was by track dog cut 3 times in the shoulder, chest, and neck, one bulldog cut in the neck and another dog cut under the chin.
Hunt #3 Thursday night
Struck out at the first spot at dark so we started out to another and on the way saw a sow?? about 175 lbs. run across the dirt road from a peanut field. Turned loose and started in the direction the hog went. ME and my son in law went toward where we heard a dog bark but came up empty. MY brother and friend went to his dog baying and when he got there it was a wreck. The russian boar was in blackberry and rose briars about chest high and only one dog was trying to catch and she was wrecked. Blood from the dog was all over the saplings, briars and ground and when my brother ran in there the hog was uncaught and faced him. He got ready for a charge but the bulldog pulled together a last effort and the hog turned to it to finish the job it had done on it. When it turned my brother grabbed the hog by the tail and he and the friend got him down and cuffed. He grabbed the bulldog up and ran out to the edge where his wife met him with the truck. I got there shortly after and started working on saving the dog. She wasn't breathing, had bled out, and was steaming from the heat. I got the anti-shock medications in to her, sister in law gave her 4 breaths, and we got her barely breathing. As the medications kicked in she started to come around some so we got the hog loaded and headed to the house for further treatment. Got IV fluids in her, antibiotics and anti - tetanus drugs and she is still kicking today. She was cut into the chest where you could see her lungs, possible broke shoulder that was also cut up, possible broke jaw and cuts all the way through her muzzle, and numerous cuts all over her body. We keep sutures, staples, medications, lidocaine, and such for our dogs and with my medical training I can save most of the saveable dogs we get wrecked. It was a "hell hunt" for sure as nothing went right, had dogs scattered everywhere, the 2 other catchdogs had been left in the dog boxes cause we didn't think we would need em on the hog we saw, hunters scattered in 2 directions, just one of the hunts were "Murphy" took charge but it ended on a good note.
Oh yeah, the boar was areally thick, long bodied russian boar about 275 lbs. with some 1 1/2/ inch razor sharp teeth.
