Here are the rules:
1. Hog must be free range caught, hogs caught in training pens or high fence areas will be disqualified.
2. Hogs must be caught with dogs, no trapped hogs, or shot hogs.
3. Hogs must be caught, hobbled, and tied or cuffed and photos taken when the hog is alive. (I realize some may want the hog for the freezer or to mount but the hog must be caught alive and secured with either rope or cuffs)
4. Several good pics of the hog must be posted showing a reference size and teeth. Weight can be estimated but must be realistic.
5. Description of teeth must be given as to length of each (can be estimated on live hogs that are later released) of top and bottom teeth.
Also figure a guestimated or actual score for the hog based on this calculation:
Weight of hog + (total length of top teeth X 100) + (total length of bottom teeth X 100) + ( 100 if hog is released back to wild or 50 points if it dies of natural causes during or after capture due to stress.) For a 200 lb. hog with 1.5 inch top teeth (total of 3.0 inches) and 2 inch bottom teeth (total of 4 inches) that was released, the score would be :
200 + 300 + 400 + 100 = total score of 1000 points
If you want to include archery and firearm hunters, allow 25 bonus points if hog is bow killed and nothing for gun kills. This system gives fair credit to the hog for size and teeth, it gives the dogs credit, and it gives the hunter credit for catching the hog verses shooting it. Any hog scoring over 1000 points is a trophy in most folks eyes.
