My red dog "Elvis" stopped and caught this 200lb barr hog on the Seminole Ranch WMA Spe Op hunt in 2002. Huntin bud Ian in the pic with me. Another friend's dogs had jumped this hog a mile away and he made a mistake by running toward where we were hunting. He crossed a couple hundred yards upwind from us. Evis winded/picked up the scent trail on the breeze, ran him down, and caught him out in the stick marsh. Within several minutes the other dogs that were on his trail showed up but it was all over by then. It was a good morning and hunt but we were about two miles from the truck. This was likely a boar hog that we had cut a year or two earlier. The "pork chops" were split up and everyone went home with a prize for the freezer. Dave1

This was a fresh used hog wallow in the mud along one of the many hog trails in the Seminole Ranch WMA. This wallow was near where we caught the barr hog. Dave1

This fairly stout tree was also in the Seminole Ranch WMA near where we caught the barr hog. The tree was rubbed with mud much higher than my waist. I can only guess how big the hog was that rubbed it that high. If you look closely you can see where the tree has been scarred and cut by the sharp tusks of a big boar hog. They mark trees in this fashion, depositing scent, similar to a buck rubbing a sapling. You can see the edge of the river stick marsh in the background and a well used trail going in there. Dave1
