Anybody ever built a layout boat for duck hunting? I want to buildone myself to use primarily as a decoy ferry and a blind. I do plan to "layout" in it on occasion and must be able to carry me and a Lab(that's right I said a lab and not a German Shorthair).

March 2004 Field & Stream. PM me if the link isn't any good and I'll just send you my March issue of the mag, or let me know if you want it anyway. It's got a materials list that isn't in the online version of the article. It's not exactly a layout, but it's pretty close. Try this: www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/outdoorskills/article/0,13199,594242,00.html The One-Man Duckboat Get small-water versatility in this easy-to-build craft. by Monte Burch "Small-water duck hunters need a boat that they can paddle quietly into swamps and sloughs, yet one that has enough room for decoys, gear, gun, and dog. This boat is perfect for the job. It comes out to approximately 16 feet in length and weighs about 100 pounds. Building it isn’t very difficult, and it should take about 20 working hours. Although you should follow the general measurements, much of the construction is fit-and-cut, then fit-and-glue. Total cost for materials is about $200."[/i]

Thanks Go but I've already started on a cajun pirogue. The boat in this article is a variant of the one I'm making. Depending on how this project goes I'll probably make another one with my own design.

Sounds cool. Be sure to get all your seams watertight and get some pics up when you're done. I'd like to do a project like that, but 16' is too long for me to put in the bed of the truck and I don't have a place for a trailer. I might could modify it to fit the truck It'd be cool for small water and my trout fishing trips.
