Good average for doves per box of shells? I'm thinking it would be pretty low.
I've been watching a few shoots on tv and it looks like it could be pretty fun.

I would probably be more inclined to say boxes per bird for myself.....

Hmmmm......good question.
I would suggest that you get to a range to find your answer. And I don't mean get behind a thrower.......I mean get to the skeet or 5 stand range or even a sporting course.
A fine example is the first and last two times I took out my new 16 ga. I blew a box and a half and shot two birds (they DO fly at about 55 mph, ya know).
I went out last weekend and shot 9 birds and had a 3 shells left out of a box......with my 12 ga.
I would say that for an average shotgunner, like myself, with a gun you are familiar with, I believe 8 to 10 birds with a box is a good marker on dove.

I've read that a nat'l avg is 4 shells per bird and I can see that. I've got days that I'm on and days that I'm not. As far as hunting them though, they're a hoot. It just makes for a good relaxing afternoon.

Serious bird shooters should shoot the limit (12) with two boxes of shells.
