41 days....
Ahhhhhh ......... relief is within grasp. The house is almost done and hunting license go on sale in 25 days for the 06-07 season. Of course, in Texas, that means DOVE SEASON is right around the corner.
I was really hoping that I would have the new shotgun finished by the opener but it looks like I'll be hunting with the old 500 that has brought home so many birds before.
I seem to have new fields to hunt around Olney, Texas and I understand that you can limit before noon.....even if you are a bad shot.
I now have all my weekends off and I guess I'll be sleeping plenty of Friday and Saturday nights in my truck bed under the stars. I can't wait.

Daylight Sept 1. We've pretty much cancelled the West Tx trip this year because of the drought. All of the birds are on grain fields and my group won't pay to hunt private land. I'll hunt with buddies around the in-laws place - more targets than shells there last year and all I heard was "you should've been here yesterday". The sunflowers in the riverbottom are about chest high now. I need to make a trip down there and borrow my brother in laws new tractor and do some shredding. He just bought a used Kubota with A/C'd cab and XM radio. I could find room for a cooler in there and mow for hours. Sadly enough, the more I train (spend) on my dog, the more I prefer quail hunting. Dove are a heck of a lot easier to find. Man, I love bird season.
