Anyone know of this outfit? I ordered a bottle of dove scent, a bottle of quail scent, a "softmouth" bumper, and a puppy collar with a stamped ID plate from them last night. I got an email that it shipped today and should be delivered Friday. Prices seemed reasonable too - $26 incl shipping. They didn't have quail wings. Cabela's does and I almost ordered them, but I decided I might be getting ahead of myself a little bit. www.gundogsupply.com/if you want to check them out. Thy're in Starkville MS.

The tape that came with my electronic collar had three different trainers on it. One of the guys said let 'em have birds early. He even let the puppy catch a live quail on the ground. (That is a huge no-no as far as I'm concerned.) His thinking is to let the dog get a taste for birds as early as possible so they get really excited about birds and going hunting.(My experience has been, if you get a dog from good hunting lines they will get bird the first time they smell a bird)
I learned something from the litter of puppies we had two years ago. You can't start training too early. You over do it at an early age but it's never to early.
Get you some wings. Especially if you gonna do the wing on a string thing. Puppies love that game and it's a great way to start teaching them that they can't grab the live bird on the ground.

Dont know about pointers and such. But with retrievers you want them on birds as soon as possible. Six or seven weeks. Oh yeah. Dont let the first bird your dog picks up be a dove. The feathers come out real easy and get all in their mouth. You want that first experience to be a good one.

I haven't let my 7 month old lab puppy get a bird yet. Only because I didn't have any in the freezer. My shorthair wore out the last duck I had and I threw it away.
She's been hell those Carrylite dead ducks though.

I used to order out of Dunn's all the time until the stores here finally started to sell gun dog supplies.
As for puppies on birds or wings,I would let mine get a sniff and see if the pointing desire was there, then leave it be until I started whoa training.

Strange that somebody from Ireland can say that they have been using Gundog Supply for years. Only problem for us is that import tax can make the price prohibitive. There are however, things I get from Gundog Supply that I just can't get anywhere else. Nowhere!
