I have never done it with one of my dogs before but I can't see any other way to get Max's attention. He'll be two in March and he still won't obey his commands all the time yet!
I took him out for some training on the powerlines behind the house. (We work on something everyday even if it's just "Stay!" or retrieving and dropping a frozen duck.) He was following his commands flawlessy, pointing him left or right, making him check back and wait for me, I got in the tall grass out of sight and called him to my raised hand, etc... We'd been at it a half hour and not a problem. So I head back for the house and as we get to path throught the briars to the house off he goes like streak. I call, I whistle, I "hup!, hup!" nothing stops him He runs down to some neighboring houses to rile up their penned up dogs and act a fool and come back whe HE'S ready.

So I goes to cabelas.com tonight and orders me a Innotek ADV-300. Like Cool Hand Luke Max is gonna get his mind right! All he had to do was what I trained him to do! But nooooooooooo he wants to act like an idiot.

One of my new books on dog training talks about "Dog adolescence" happening at or about two yrs of age. Neither of them talk about shock collars, but you've got to get their attention somehow - bird dog or househound.

yep, when they hit 2 they take all that you have tought them, and they think they can do it all without you. that is the year, that you will turn out a hell of a dog, or a dog that will never hunt for you. you must maintain that you are in charge....at all times

I have never done this before because I didn't believe in it. But I'm at my wits end with this little man.
I had a male Brittney years ago that had me this crazy at one point. In fact I even hit him with my fist one time. That's when I said he needs to go because that ain't no way treat any dog. I just don't like to go this route but I can't get anymore per my bosses instructions.

I mean I've only had three in 18 years of marriage. That's not too many is it?
