I went to the lake Wednesday to try and shoot some geese and killed three and crippled two. After I had gotten set up it was about an hour before I had any geese flying near me because the fog rolled in as soon as I got the dekes out. I called one group in and they came in and lit before I could get a shot. I sent my dog in the water to get them up and flying again. I managed to shoot one down that hit the water and started to swim away. I shot him in the head and that was that. The next group I called in I shot two birds in flight and one hit the water dead the other kept going like I never even hit hit him. He landed about 200 yards away in the middle of the lake. I called that same group back around and the exact same scenario happened. I shot two and one hit the water dead while the second one flew off about 150 yards and landed in the middle of the lake and swam away. I never had this happen when we could shoot lead shot. If I were still working for the power company making the big bucks I would still be shooting bismuth-tungsten or Hevi-Shot which works almost as good as lead. The good news is I got to go to the lake and shoot some geese and my dog performed wonderfully. Maggie didn't even have to told to get the geese as soon as they hit the water she was on them. Of course she has this issue with bringing the birds all the way onto the bank. She stops about 2-3 feet from the bank and drops them.

Steel shot almost made me quit duck hunting. I found that hevi-shot works ALMOST as well as lead.

Yeah......I hate the crap too. It BIG TIME F's up my choke tubes (which are FOR steel shot).
I prefer the Bismuth Tungstun but I can't afford that stuff.
