Have you folks heard about this? Apparently the London Co that owned the ports in several US cities was bought by a company from the United Arab Emirates.
If we can't be entirely sure that our "friends" the Saudi's aren't supporting terrorists, can we trust another Arab (Muslim) country to run our ports? Looks like a bad case of the fox guarding the henhouse.

Is there anyone left out there that doesn't think Bush is a complete moron? This is beyond f-ed up. I have already contacted my senators and my congressman and none of them support this. I heard Limbaugh yesterday again defending Bush on this. I think this moron took too much oxycontin.

I also heard last night (but haven't had time to research) that the Chinese own ports in LA and several other US ports are owned by foreign countries or companies in foreign countries. I didn't know the Brits owned the six that are now selling to the UAE, but it doesn't bother me so much that they had them.
Y'all know I'm not a big gov't guy, but I'm thinking that the gateways into our country should be owned, run, maintained, and secured by us - private US companies or the gov't, if it has to be that way.
And then W is standing there threatening a veto and asking what kind of message this sends. Does anyone else think he might be grandstanding a little?

I think I'm beginning to believe what the Dems are always saying about him being stubborn and unwilling to admit his mistakes. I think he could easily call the head dog over at the UAE and tell them "hey cuz I can't let this go through because it's causing me too much heat with my peeps" I think those guys would understand about trying to keep the peeps calm. You know how easily those muslims take to the streets over some silly crap like a political cartoon. Your point about letting a US company take this job over is the biggest problem I see in this whole thing. Why should a foriegn company, any foriegn company, get these contracts? There are some things we should keep at home.

Now it's being reported that W didn't know about the deal until the uproar started.
1. That's a LOUSY excuse and doesn't have anything to do with him standing behind it
2. Who exactly has their finger on the pulse of the major goings-on? We've got a country that we can't know if they've supported terrorism but they say they're on our side. That's getting all to familiar over there but apparently Washington doesn't worry about it.
It's about like letting Teddy Kennedy guard the liquor cabinet.

Seems like all the talking heads are trying to change americas mind about this... i think we are crazy if this goes through myself. i realize its not a contract on the security of our ports , the coast guard is doing this supposedly, but it seems like letting the enemy guard our ports. all it takes is 1 slip through of a "fragile" container and then we are all in trouble. i also believe that no matter who does this job that the chance is always there. seems they only check about 10% of the imported containers anyway , impossible to check them all. i see no reason why an american company can't do this... ooops i forgot americans like to get paid to do work. may as well let the maxicans guard our southern borders and the french to guard the north lol. what also gets me is why is dumbya so into vetoing this if he never even knew anything about it. pathetic that our ports are sold by the brits and we dont care who buys them... i wanna cuss real bad

Looks like the deal is dead. I hear reports that the Dubai co pulled out on their own. Would anyone bet against the White House asking them to give it up??
And I also hear they're dealing it off to a US subsidiary, so it might be the same company just flying a different flag? Don't know that I feel much better about that if it's the case.
