I was very proud of him last night after that press conference but I was again angered by him when I heard on the news this morning how he was going to keep boys in Iraq, that were about rotate out and come home, for three more months.
We need to stay over there and finish what we started. We need to pay back some people over there for that incident with those contractors they killed in Fallujah. We need to have enough troops to do what we gotta do. BUT when it comes a soldiers turn to come home, let him come home. These boys and girls have done their time and dodged getting 86'ed by the enemy. Don't tell them after they have marked off all the days on their "I'm short calender" " Oops, sorry kids you ain't going home now".
I don't understand that guy sometimes. You won't be able to get nobody to re-up with that kind of crap. If we need to increase the size of our military let's do it!

Well, to play devils advocate for a minute, dont you think that it would be wise to have "seasoned" personel in Iraq, knowing what is around each corner, or have "green" personel who really dont know what to expect, or what to look for? I agree that the men and women that are there right now want to come home, like you or I would be, but hell, they have done a great job and need to finish up the job. Im sure it was a hard decision for him to make, but he made it, and he's sticking to it.

This ain't shift change at the glue factory. We aren't taking everybody that knows the theatre out at once. Imagine the stress of being in a warzone for a year counting the days down after not being killed by the enemy and being told to unpack and call your wife, your parents and your siblings you ain't coming home you gotta stay and face the enemy three more months.
I remember counting the days until my dad came home from Vietnam when I was 9 years old. I can't even comprehend my mom coming and telling me with days left until his arrival that wasn't coming after all.
Here is something else for George to think about. What is one voting block that a Republican presidential candidate can always count on? The military! He might need to look for these votes somewhere else now.

It's a hard decision to make when you're the one at the top.I respect and admire the man.I just shudder when I think of what would've happened had the other guy been in office.

This is deffinitly going to turn some people off. I rember during the first Gulf War all the involantary extensions and the guys reaction to it. In that case anybody with a year or less left in service was involutarily extended. In other words your active time was no longer up when it was up.
I also think military service is growing harder on our troops. You can almost bet in four years of service you will be deployed to some overseas rathole for "peace keeping, peace making or whatever duties. Some of these units are getting hit pretty hard with deployment after deployment.
While you can argue about the loss of in field experience look at the otherside of the ccoin in that by rotrating fresh troops in you spread field experience around. Also there is the motivational factor. Fresh troops of course are not going to be happy to be there but they dont have a years worth of bs on their minds either.
