I posted this last night but it was lost,so here goes again. I shot two ruffed grouse on sunday morning as I was returning to camp from the morning hunt. I breasted them out and seasoned them with S&P and garlic powder,we don't have much in the way of spices in camp. Then I fried up some bacon to get the fat to cook the breast in.Cooked up a mess of spuds and onions and when the breast were a golden brown we ate. They were so damn good I fed the bacon to my dog. To me it just don't get better'n that.

Sounds wonderful. It always tastes better when it cooked immediately after it's cleaned.

Grouse have got to be one of my faves to eat, especially the ruffed grouse. We have two other kinds in the area,Franklins and Blues but they can sometimes be gamey.

I've never had the chance to try grouse, but that sounds great. Not too many of them running around my area unless you try the mountains or a game ranch which are not my cup of tea.
About the only game bird I've had is dove and duck.

We call them partridge in NY. Love em. My brother shot something like 45 last year.
