Took the day off yesterday to take my nephew hunting, was supposed to be a pheasant hunt but ended up being an archery hunt for deer.
Trav arrowed a big white tail doe, almost 200 pounds out of my ladder stand at first light,he was ecstatic,it is his first bow kill.
I was ready to call it a day but he wanted to stay out longer so I could get one, what a guy.
Deer movement wasn't great, there's been alot of wolf activity in the area.I decided to move to another location 10 miles to the N.E. so we loaded up and went in search of the cutblocks where there should be deer hanging out.We mostly did alot of glassing, seeing mule deer and moose but no white tails.I was going to call it quits when Yrav saw 2 doe's feeding on the edge of a cut block.I figured I could make a stalk in about 20 minutes with the light we still had left.I put a small swell between me and the deer and made a quick walk to within a 100 yards undetected.Luck was smiling on me as the 2 deer were feeding right to me.I was concerned about losing light and almost decided not to take a shot but It was over a 100 yards or better in any direction to treelines and with a good shot a deer wouldn't make cover before it died.I was right,I drew on the biggest doe at 50 yards, let her take 2 more steps to get a good broadside and punched an arrow thru her,she piled up after 50 yards. It was almost dark when I walked up to her.We gutted her and dragged her to the jeep, had a victory beer and headed home.
