I'll be going on my first hunt for this season. It's gonna hit about 90 today, but I'm just going to take my time getting to the stand. Oh, I'm going to hunt out of my favorite stand that I've NEVER seen a deer out of. It looks good and always has good sign around it, but I've never laid eyes on a deer there......

Saw a squirrel or two and one turkey. Still good sign though.

Nitro,
I've got a place like you describe, full of sign, beautiful setting, comfortable tree, but never any deer. About 100 yds down the hill from that spot the woods turn thick, the terrain gets really steep, and there is not a white oak in site. To make things worse, all the trees are really small so to put a stand up on a windy day is suicide. I've killed a deer there opening morning 8 out of the last 10 years.

That sounds exactly like this stand! I might have to move a little lower and see what happens.

Do you ever jump deer while going to or from your stand at that spot?
It may be worth the chance to set-up just outside of the area you've been hunting.

There is a old road that is between my stand and the thicket I'm talking about. My stand is above the road and the thick stuff is below it. I always walk the road and go up the ridge to my stand, I have saw a few deer between my stand and the road but never below the road. If I hunt there this weekend I'll try to take a few pics of the area so you all will have a better Idea of what I'm talking about.
