The other year when I went to but a recurve to bowfish with and came home with an AR15? Well, I went out today to buy some bullets to spend up tomorrow with some friends. I ended up with most of the bullets on the list and 2 rifles.... Its a sickness I tell ya! I was gonna look around anyway because my mom likes to shoot .22s and I was gonna see if I could find a deal. I bought a Remington 597 with 3 extra clips and saw an old Marlin 39A lever action 22 I had to have. I talked em down to $300 for the marlin and I think 135 for the Remington. Both were used, but the remington is in VERY GOOD condition. I say the Marlin is in prob 90% which I think is really good for a gun with that much age.

Hi All, I hope you get on OK with that Remington 597, I have yet to hear anything good about them, it might just be a lemon hence it being for sale cheap The Marlins have a good reputation for being a fine gun ;D

How old is your 39A?
Mine was made in 53 as best I can tell. I need to get it to the Smith to replace the firing pin......I miss that gun.....I have not fired it in about 15 years.

Not sure. Ill get the serial later and look it up on Marlins site. If its like Browning's site it has a serial decoder on it. Im still lookin. According to this 1980 is possible, although I have no prefix letter.... Mine says its a 39A ORIGINAL Im not sure what the ORIGINAL is on there for. www.e-gunparts.com/forum/readreply.asp?rep=35748&qt=32546&cat=21

I thought it would be older, but it looks like its an 80 model. Still, its in pretty durn good condition for a 24year old gun.
Also wanted to say today was one of my best days ever at the range. I was in the ZONE. I even shot a 1" group at 25yds off the rest with my new springfield armory .40SW! I had some better groups with the 39A also. I shot it 3 time to see where it was hitting and moved the scope. I shot it 3 times after movin it and had 1 hole. I asked jamie to watch through the big scope and see if he could tell where I was hitting. After 3 more shots the hole finally got bigger!

MOA at 25.......good groups.
Prolly wouldn't be much bigger at 50.
I remember my 39 shooting well too......I REALLY need to fix it and get it back to the range.
