What would you guys recommend?:
I don't own a magnum revolver. I'm leaning towards carrying a 9mm Browning HP with Hirtenberger +p+ over the Colt 1911 loaded with Speer flying ashtrays simply for the 5 extra rounds. After all these years I'm still not convinced that the .45 is a superior cartridge - for penetration on hogs anyways. Maybe just use ball ammo in the 1911? Anybody conduct their own backup gun tests on hogs?
I know somebody's gonna say they carry a .454 Casull with only one round in the cylinder cuz they have adrenal issues, what about the rest of you semi-normal folk? ;D
TIA, MPB

Hmmmmm.....lessee.......
Howees about a Raging Bull in the .454
Or if you were like me, just a .25 would do.

And as far as .45 being a superior round for hogs,
when Remington makes a CorLokt in .45 it'll be over.

I have never carried a back up gun for hugs, I always count on putting the arrow or the bullit in the sweet spot then there is no need for a backup gun.

>when Remington makes a CorLokt in .45 it'll be over. When Rem makes a .45 in CoreLokt, it'll be a RIFLE bullet HEE!! I do like those $.07 .30 bullets tho. >BTW, >can you still get the Hirt +P+? Negative, I cached some circa 98? Heard it's $45 a box now. >I think that sh!t was outlawed as the "cop >killer".......or am I thinking about the black talon stuff? The Hirt +p+ WILL defeat a C3 vest; the Black Talon just had teflon on it for bore lubricity. Rosie Odonell heard the teflon would make it penetrate a vest. >I have never carried a back up gun for hugs, Me neither, who you get your hugs from? >I always >count on putting the arrow or the bullit in >the sweet >spot then there is no need for a backup >gun. Morton Thiokal counted on their O rings functioning in sub zero. You must be one of those optimists I've heard about!

A guy I work with hunts EVERYTHING with his .45 Colt. He said the only way to kill a hog with a .45 is to use the hard cast bullets, or ball ammo. He said as soon as you go trying to get something to mushroom, you lose your penetration.
I still have to wonder, why do you want a .45 cal bullet to expand? A .45 is like shooting an already expanded .30 cal bullet, isnt it? I guess some people just like really big holes.
