I'm sure the bolt is most used, but am curious about the others. Give your reasons for prefering a particular action.

I said lever. My first deer rifle was a Winchester Model 94 30-30. I hunted it for years until I started getting opportunities to hunt clear cuts and powerlines. I got a Savage 110 in .30-06 (bolt action) even though I could re-chamber fairly fast I never felt comfortable with the bolt-action. 12 Chrsitmas' ago my wife got me a Browning Model 81 BLR(Browning Lever Rifle) in 7mm-08. Things have been right with my rifles ever since. ;D

Bolt action all the way for me.They're the strongest action built and you get more accuracy from them.

I use a single shot on deer. It helps me concentrate & be more selective knowing I will probably get only one shot.

I am probably the odd ball, I prefer the old remington 742 semi auto. I have 2, one was my dads and is older than me but thats what I learned to shoot with and after trying other keep goin back to. I really prefer my Hoyt Ultratec

I'll go with the lever and then the bolt actions a close second.

lever action for hunting and bolt for target shooting.if you reload you will only get 3 firing on a lever do to [headspace] thats where the bolt shines.on reloads.as for accuracy,no difference. my .250 sav lever action at 100 yards will shoot the bullet in the same hole over and over.my load is 3031 with a speer 100gr.the 87 grain is better for deer but thats another subject.sorry i got off track.lever actions[feel] better than any [bolt] action i have used.they are faster to camber a shell and you do not have to drop your gun to load another shell. try that with a bolt action, most people drop their gun down to load another shell in the bolt action.lever actions just feel and handle better than the bolt actions.i have over 67 guns now and shot and hunted with almost all makes and calibers.take care

i like single shots the best for a "stand gun" they have all the avantages of the bolt + they are normaly lighter and you can use a longer barral and have the same over all gun lenth ie a 24 in barrald bolt vs a 26in barrale single so it has a little volisity avantage in the same sized packeged.
then the leaver action
'perferd for walking woods hunting in a heavy cal like 45-70 then bolts then autos and pumps

Give me an auto.
I have never been a fan of bolts or levers. My next choice would be pump.

I'm disappointed in you guys. Nobody has said the obvious answer to this question. "The one that kills a deer is my favorite." ;D ;D ;D

redoak, pumps are noisy on chambering the second shot. also they will not fire unless you slam them shut.many a deer got away becvause of a pump. trust me

I don't understand the noise issue commanche. The first shot is going to be alot louder than the action working.

Single shots --- Ruger #1's and Contenders are my favorites. My Squirrel gun is a T/C Cheokee muzzle loader in .32 cal.
