I am looking for a pistol preferably the Springfield XD, but I am at a total loss for a caliber. I cant make up my mind 9, 40, 45. I want it on my belt whenever I go to the woods, and maybe to have around the house. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 96

I love my SA XD40. If youre still around 96 holler at me and we can try to get together so you can shoot it one day. I Like something bigger than a 9, but the 45 grips feel big to me. The 40 is the "perfect" middle ground.

Hey I am no longer in 96, I am back in Beech Island. The .40 is where I was leaning, because I know so man people who have a .40 caliber.

The .40 may be a good route to go. I carry a Springfield 1911 in .45 but it has a 3 inch barrel and the muzzle flip is crazy. If you are gonna go with the compact model, I might suggest the 9mm.....HOWEVER, there is the long standing debate about knockdown of the 9. I personally prefer the .45 even with the violent flip/recoil but I've had a .45 so long, that I'm used to it. On the flipside, if my wife ever had to use it, it might kill her. Not to mention she cant even charge the slide.
I think th .40 is a good compromise with a poly type handgun. If you go bigger, just remember what you got yourself into. It's a "whole lotta Rosie".

My wife & I are planning to join the Sheriff's Auxilliary here in Mobile Co. and I've been told that we will have to invest in a Glock .40 cal for each of us, as that's what the deputies carry. Thus I've done a little research, and found that the 10mm. is a .40 caliber, only a little longer cartridge, and it packs one helluva whallop. I know that Glocks are quite pricey, but they do make a compensated model to help reduce the muzzle-jump. I/we have yet to fire one of these .40's. I personally keep a Llama .45 auto for one of my home defense weapons, and I'm pretty fair with it. We're still savin' up for the Glocks!

So, 96, what did you go with .....the XD in .40?
