I took Dalton out this morning for our youth hunt. We had 3 gobbling on the ridge to above us and another gobbling just south of them.
Like a dumbass I figured the three were jakes and would be easier to call in than the lone turkey so we set-up on them and scared them off for good.
After about a 5 mile hike around the mountain we ended up coming home with nothing killed but time, and we didn't even need a license for that.
We did see 7 deer in all. We didn't find any morels, I figure we're still a week or two away.

We rode to Petersburg VA today and saw a PILE of turkeys along the way, gobblers included but I dont have a VA hunting-license so I intend to stick close to home this season....-tim

We didn't find any morels, I figure we're still a week or two away. I love them shrooms. I'd say it will a couple more weeks here too. |

I walked for MILES yesterday. Played the run and gun card. it was 930 and I hadnt heard a peep. was driving by a place I used to deer hunt and decided to stop the truck and call one time. He gobbled and it sounded like he was str8 infront of the truck almost out of hearing. I knew there was a big gully about 150yds into the woods and I would have to walk up the road about 70yds to get around it. I got where I thought he would be close and called, He gobbled but was to my right and ahead. I walker right and ahead about 75yds and set up. Next time he gobbled he was further right. I kept calling and he kept gobbling but wasnt coming. I decided to go to him. when I got within what sounded like about 70yds he was on the opposite side of a dirtroad with 7' embankments... The opposite side was private so I decided to try to go up the road and cross where it was public and see if I could call him to the edge. he gobbled a couple times, but must have picked up a hen cause he quit after 3 or 4 gobbles. I thought I had it whipped for a couple minutes.....

I bet you thought you had a hot one. Usually if you can get em to talk like that at that time of the morning you have a good chance of killing him.
You'll get em next time...

Well another year goes by with out me killing anything. I just couldnt get into it after the pollen settled down.

I just couldn't get into it this year either. Now, if deer seasoned opened tomorrow I'd probably take off from work
