Good afternoon everyone, glad to be on this site. I am new to turkey hunting so I am looking forward to learning everything that I can from ya'll. I just thought that I would brag on my kids for a minute. Last week, my sons & I made our first turkey hunt in west Texas. Learning as we went, on the 3rd day there, each boy got a gobbler. I think it was the best day hunting that I have ever had. My 11 yr old got a gobbler that weighed 21 1/4 lbs with 1 1/4" spurs and a double beard, the longest being 9". Later that afternoon, my 9 yr old got a gobbler that weighed 20 1/2 lbs with 1 1/4" spurs and a single 9" beard. Needless to say, I was very proud of them and look forward to when I can get my first bird. I think that I have created a monster though, they can't wait to go back and hunt more! I have some pics if someone would let me know how to post them on. Thanks

Ahhhh....Sportsman's Paradise...Louisiana. Where are ya? We moved to Dallas in 97 from Baton Rouge. I was born in New Orleans. All my family is still there. My mom's mother could not speak English until she was an adult.

I'm in Baton Rouge now, grew up in Ville Platte. Your grandmother sounds alot like mine. She couldn't speak English either until they taught it to her in school. She used to tell me that they would get paddled if they were caught at school speaking French. Now you have people sueing to be taught in their native languages. Go figure! I have some pics of the boys birds I would like to post, can anyone tell me how to post them to this thread? Thanks

yeah, wish I was there to 4fun1! I've only had crawfish once so far this year. But Easter has passed and the prices are dropping fast so it's time to gather the crew and fire up the pot! I am off Sherwood, not far from your old stomping grounds. By the way, how did you get crawfish up there in Dallas?
I have another question for anyone out there. Like I said earlier, I am new to turkey hunting. Does anyone know of any good videos or anything that shows different calling techniques? I found that being out in the woods last week and just listening to turkeys was much more benificial than any video I had ever seen, but would like to work on my calling during the offseason. Thanks and have a great weekend.

Hi All, May I offer my congratulations to your sons ;D now if you called these two in, I doubt your caling needs improving. Unless it was beginers luck in which case you had a basin full there ;D Fightintiger. There are folks here that are seasoned Turkey Hunters and need some of your luck I can see why you are fit to burst with pride

Thanks Brit, I would like to take credit but there was alot of beginners luck involved. Like I said, this was also my first turkey hunt. I just read the directions on the Lil Duece that I got and stuck to yelps and clucks. It helped that we were in an area with ALOT of turkeys. I don't think that I did anything to hurt myself calling but I have to think there was some divine intervention there!
