They are different deer buddy. It takes a deer 4+ years to get one over 200 pounds here. They have plenty of habitat that is full of nutritious food. They are just a different variety of deer here.

Different breeds of deer, I think they have tried transplanting some yankee deer down south but i dont think the results were what they expected,

There is a fancy scientific name for it, but basically the colder the enviroment the larger sized the animal.

Different sub-species plus some over population. They have been getting smaller(body size) here the last decade.

our northern deer need to pile on the body mass to make it through the winters. compare a canada deer to a iowa deer, is like comparing an iowa deer to a florida deer

The average 1.5 year old deer here in florida weighs between 100 and 125 lb. I killed an old 5pt. this year that topped out over 160lb. The warmer the climate the smaller the deer tend to be. Something to do with their ability to radiate heat. Sure makes it alot easier to carry them out of the woods though.

lol@BENHUNTIN, maybe I could invent a deer vest to haul the deer out, like the ones they use for bird hunting. Just put our small southern deer in the pouch and walk out. ;D

Now really. Does size really matter? Benefits of hunting Florida deer: Smaller therefore more challenging target; Can be carried out of the woods instead of dragged; Doesnt have to be quartered before you throw it on the grill; Tend to BOUNCE off of fenders instead of going through them; Because of their short stature you dont need to place your treestand so high;and last but not least, they run out of blood alot quicker so you dont have to trail them as far. Gahntr, sounds like you might be on to something. ;D
