i had them all so i thought i would post this for people who are undecided on a deer gun.i will not go into a lot of detail, its not necessary ,if you like you can send me message,if you want.here it goes, best; .243,250 sav,use the 90 gr. in the .243 and the 87 grain in the 250 sav.use [only] the lever actions, the best[savage]this is research i did for 80 years on deer hunting here in pa.again, i used and had and have them all.i bet i get comments on those bullet weights as [pros] say use 105 gr in the .243 and the 100 gr. in the 250sav. ha,they dont know, trust me on that.

I grew up shooting the Savage Model 99 in .243 using 90 gr Winchester soft points. It was my grandfather's gun. I loved this gun & wish I had another. When he died, he left his 3 guns to his 3 great grandsons.
.243 went to my cousins youngest 12 ga Remington autoloader went to my cousins oldest. Mossberg 22 mag bolt went to my son
He left me in charge of keeping them in good shape until the greatgrands met his stipulations, but told me they were not mine to use.
His stipulations are they must be 14 years old & complete the state hunter education course.
I told my cousin & her sons if either of them did not want the guns or wanted to sell them, I would appreciate 'first shot' at them.
God, what wonderful memories! ;D

I shot my first buck with the 243...smooth shooting and overall a nice gun..I borrowed it from my neighbor...not sure of the gr. I used but the deer only ran about 60 yards and fell..I was maybe 20 yards if that from the deer when I shot him

i based this selection on my kills and kills of many hunters in our gangs.also the depression etc. recoil, weight, noise on shot, killing ,looks, ease of chambering, balance, reloading. only con is you can shoot your reloads only 3 times as [headspace] will get bad as you have to [full] lenght resize your emptys in lever actions to allow them to chamber smooth.bolt action you can get 5 shots from the same shell.you would not believe the difference in hitting a deer with a 87 gr. bullet vrs a 100 gr. i seen deer get knocked off their feet with the 87gr and run on the 100gr. there i go, you are suppose to be asking me these questions, hehe.does anyone wish to ask me the best bullets for deer hunting?i tested them all and comments from our buddies for 30 years on kills .
