For the first time since she was four years old (she'll be twelve in January) my little girl went hunting with me. And she stayed all day too! I have been after her to come dog hunting with us since I joined my current club and she has refused. Partly because her mama kept saying she won't like it, she'll get bored, it's too cold, what would she wear, blah-blah, blah-blah, blah-blah.
You know what? She had a good time too! We didn't get to see a deer come by us but we did hear some good races that came close and they jumped two times in 30 minutes within 150 yards of us.
Sombody asked her if she was coming back Friday when we run dogs again and she said "I don't if know if my daddy is coming, but I might come with him if he comes." You coulda knocked me over with a feather.
We wore the poor child down though she came in the house at 7:30 and feel a sleep on the couch by 8:30.
I see all these guys bringing their yougun's with them and I always get a little jealous because I don't have a little hunting buddy. Now at least I know I can take my girl once a year or so. Of course I'll have beat the boys back like I did yesterday. ;D

We're going again in the morning!!!! We're gonna meet some of the guys at the Wafflehouse at 6:00AM at then off to the races. I wish you see the excitement on my face. She's not interesting shooting a deer herself but she knows how much I love it and I think she's just enjoying the whole commradery aspect of dog hunting.

We stayed until dinner and left after we ate. It was raining and I didn't want to ruin the progress I've made so far. She still didn't get to see a deer come by. We had a couple of good races come by us but we never saw the deer. Maybe it was because we were chit chatting and getting to know one another as friends again. She's been more into playing with her friends than with me the last several years and it was nice to able to talk and cut up like we used to. So I really don't care that I never got a shot.

My pa-in-law called last night to ask her how we did. I heard her telling him we didn't shoot any deer but had fun anyway.

Took my 8 year old son to hunt deer with dogs in Waycross, Georgia with my wife's family. He was a bit frustrated that the races were few & far between. When one good race did come our way he got really excited. No deer though.
