I got lucky enough to get a doe permit for our modern gun season this year. I took Dalton with me this morning, it is opening day of our rifle season. He was itchin' to see bloodshed so I decided I was gonna shoot the first good size doe I saw. Well....that didn't take long. We had not even made it to where I was gonna sit when I looked across the field and there were two doe standing at the woodline. We had already spooked two deer out of the field we were walking across but it was kinda dark and I couldn't tell what they were (translation-they wouldn't stop and give me a shot). Well, these two doe just stood there so what was I to do? I estimated they were 160 yds so I picked out the bigger of the two and let the hammer down. After she bounded off untouched, I glanced over at the other one and she was running across the field instead of back into the woods. Don't ask me how I missed a deer standing still, broadside and then cut the other one in half at a dead run but I did. She did a nosedive into the oats. I am guessing she weighed around 110 lbs, 1 1/2 yr old doe. We saw 9 deer in all, one good buck but I couldn't get a shot because we jumped it up while trying to get Dalton on a squirrel (he gets bored and we gotta shoot something). It was an 8 pt, a little bigger than the one I killed with my bow this year. Here are a few pics..... No, my head is not so abnormally large it can't fit into the pic, it was Daltons first attempt at photography.

Nothing like taking the kids out with ya! I have a little girl that loves to go with me and always wants me to shoot a deer so she can clean it.

Why is that 4pt?
It ain't like there is an under-abundance of deer up there. Every time I go up there I almost hit one with my car.

Congrats to both of you! I agree he probably wasn't too worried about gettin you in the pic as long as the deer was in it.
