we are allowed 1 buck with 3 points on one side and 1 doe per season here in pa. we dont kill does, only for kids first year of hunting.i was shocked at people who brag about shooting a doe, unreal. we never told anyone you killed a doe when i was 12. they would make fun of you here.we buy all the permits up inour area so others cant come in and shoot ourvdoes in county. we rip them up and throw away. we are [sportsmen] here in pa. i was surprised on you southern boys bragging about killing a doe, unreal.you folk are better than that, i thought.i dont mean to be smart but the way some talk about doe it turned my stomach.as far as i am concerned ,people who hunt does are not hunters . they are after the meat. again only[kids] hunt them here or people that dont know how to hunt here in pa.

i am sorry i vented my anger here on killing a doe. it just got me worked up on all those doe killed.did any of you ever think of taking a kid out with you to hunt? shooting all those deer seems to me to be a waste.a kid could be taken out and taught how to hunt , of course i would only let him shoot a doe his first year then he becomes a man or women and hunts the old crafty buck. kids are not learning how to hunt now. they dont even know what a [buck] track looks like?what story is kid going to tell on shooting a female doe all his life?he is sitting in camp around the fire, the old timers says[how did you do on catching up to old mossy horns]kid says old timer has a heart attack.what worrys me is these kids are being brought up today to hunt for meat not the sport of the hunt, thats sad.i hope i did not insult anyone but you know where i stand on this.we were raised as hunters and a female deer was not something you killed.again, sorry i vented my anger here but please relize as a hunter it was very sad to here that southern folk did this.i am very disappointed

Killing does in Georgia has become almost a requirement to the health of the herd. There are so many deer (mostly does) in the state that they are starving the herd out. Also car/deer collisions are sharply on the rise. Most wildlife biologists confirm that shooting does is the best way to manage the herd & guarantee increased body weight, increased antler size, & correct buck to doe ratio. Am I offended by your comments? No. The same ideaology held here until the mid 80's. There are some old timers that still believe you shouldn't EVER kill a doe. You may have a different set of circumstances in your area where the buck to do ratio is where it needs to be & killing does could actually hurt the herd. The situation here dictates killing does. I am not the least bit ashamed of doing so. Get hold of a deer hunting almanac. It will show you the estimated herd for each state, the number of hunters per state, & the estimated kill each year per state. You will see that states like Georgia, Alabama, & South Carolina are almost infested with deer. The biologists aren't stupid. If killing does would hurt the herd, they wouldn't allow it. Southern states have long seasons & liberal bag limits for a reason. Too many deer for the land to hold.

the last thing we believe here in pa. is the pa game commission.you know they want all our deer gone so the [oak] trees can grow!they will not tell us that, they say to many deer. is 3 deer in 3 or 4 miles a lot of deer? come here and i will show you what they are doing and lies they are using. dont ever believe them or their biollogist. dont believe the dcnr also, insurance co. logging co.they all want the deer gone. you know our deer here average 145 pds. i bet yours dont? correct me if wrong. i saw some of your does in those pictures, my god, they looked like fawns.our fawns are as big as that.if you would like the [truth] i will comment. i will try to control my feeling on doe killing but its hard for me, hope you all understand, commanc

You have to kill does to have a healthy deer herd! Up in Pa where they have a huge deer pop you should believe in killing does! You see only probably 10% of what your actual deer pop is on your land in a season if you count all of the deer up and assume that each one was a different one even though you know they are not and are some the same ones. I hear the same old story all the time we don't see any does or the deer pop is lower this year or they don't seem to be as fat and healthy as in the past. Well they are the same ones that have this notion that you shouldn't kill does. Or they are hunting for horns and don't really care about the overall health of the population in their area. Well it's fact not fiction that you need to kill does! Have a great day nuff said

Just try to understand that things are not always the same in all areas. A big deer here is 150 pounds. Further south in Florida there are herds of deer that the average weight is 60 pounds. In Canada, the average weight of a deer is 180-200 pounds. There is a scientific term for it (that I don't remember) that says animals tend to be bigger the closer they live to the poles & smaller the closer they live to the equator. Georgia's deer population is estimated at 1.3 million (6th in the US) Harvest is 408190 (3rd in the US).There are 279382 gun hunters, 96844 bow hunters, 42259 muzzleloading hunters. Pennsylvania's herd is estimated at1.5 million (5th in US) Harvest is 401818 (4th in US). There are 1060728 gun hunters, 282700 bow hunters, 136600 muzzleloading hunters (These are numbers from 2000) Although herd & harvest numbers are similar, the number of hunters in Pa. are significantly greater than those in Ga. No wonder you feel like we are mowing down the does. ;D If ya'll could kill 2 bucks & 10 does like the hunters here, the deer population would be gone in no time.
